The Problem with Capitalism
The biggest problem with Covid was not the disease itself. The biggest problem, the thing that caused economic, social and psychological disasters, as well as arguably more deaths, was the trashing of individuals’ human rights and forcing people to do what they would not voluntarily do.
When I think of the slurs and propaganda the government promulgated, it is hard not to be resentful. Angry. “Selfish”, “Do you want to kill your grandmother”, “we can’t invite them over for Xmas”, “Covidiot”, “Facebook scientist”, “So you’re an expert in virology now”…….and so on, and so on.
Roughly a third of the population voluntarily enlisted for the role of useful idiot, and ultimately helped the government implement its overreach. They suddenly became defacto policemen/women who not only authoritatively regurgitated government propaganda, but enforced, idiotic government regulations (like curfews, 1.5m distances, masks, the sealing off of playgrounds, mutual masturbation and allowing sick loved ones to die alone). They accused anyone who dared think for themselves of being an “anti-vaxxer”, a “cooker”, “a tin hat wearer”, “a conspiracy theorist”, of being “anti-science” or selfish or just plain stupid. Some of these useful idiots have since seen the error of their ways, largely because they or their loved ones inevitably became sick, despite government assurances, and realised they were lied to. But some remain ardently attached to their idiotic ideology and refuse to acknowledge reality to this day.
Government overreach including lockdowns, forced closures of business and vaccine mandates, brought unprecedented destruction to the economic, social, psychological and physical health of the population. But none of this could have been implemented without the useful idiots.
If people want to take vaccines, they should be allowed to take as many as they like. If people want to stay home because they feel unsafe, they should. As long as it does not hurt others, people should be able to do whatever they want to protect themselves. But the moment people are forced to do things to their bodies involuntarily, the moment government forces people to close their businesses and to stay home “for their own safety”, then that’s the moment we begin to erode individual human rights and open the door to disaster.
We must acknowledge however, that behind the useful idiots, was fear created and perpetuated, by the media who, not only is owned by the same handful of corporate behemoths that own big Pharma, but who earn their profits by doing whatever their clients pay them to do. In this instance government and big Pharma. Neither government nor media (nor big Pharma for that matter) exist for our well-being or edification. They exist for profit. Make no mistake, everything we have been through (covid, financial crises, environmental destruction, etc), and everything we are going through now (Palestinian genocide, war, poverty, erosion of western values and social fabric, increased levels of health problems, etc) all has its roots in profit.
Once this reality is understood, it is not difficult to see how the covid fiasco was a different flavour of what’s happening in Palestine right now; lies, perpetuated by the media for profit. Despite horrors broadcast to the world on a daily basis, despite violating agreement after agreement, despite the exposure of lie after lie, despite still, after 2 years, being disallowed to enter Gaza and despite more journalists killed than in WW1, WW2, Vietnam, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan combined, the western media remains loyal to those who own it and who pay for it - in this case US, Israeli, British, German and Australian billionaire Zionists amongst others. Instead of reporting the truth, they white-wash reality, justify cruelty and legitimise occupation and unimaginable war crimes and crimes against humanity, including genocide.
Until we, as a society, realise that politics, war, pharmaceuticals, media, banks, the economy, etc, are all branches of the same capitalistic tree, nourished by the soil of human greed, and until this tree is felled, and we truly value human rights, we will remain in our current, downward spiral of social and moral decay.
